හම්බන්තොට මහජන පුස්තකාලයීය මාර්ගගත සුචිය වෙත සාදරයෙන් පිළිගනිමු
සංස්කෘතිකමය වටිනාකමකින් සහ ඵෙතිහාසික වටිනාකම් රාශියකින් ද, ජාත්‍යන්තරය තුලද දිදුළන නමකින් සැදුම්ලත් දකුණු ලක සුවිශේෂී දිස්ත්‍රික්කයක් වන හම්බන්තොට දිස්ත්‍රික්කයෙහි හම්බන්තොට නගරයෙහි මෙම පුස්තකාලය පිහිටා ඇත.
සුන්දර වෙරළ තීරයට ආසන්නයෙන්ද , හම්බන්තොට වරාය තෙල් පිරිපහදුවට යාබදව හා හම්බන්තොට පැරණි මහා රෝහලට ආසන්නයේ පිහිටි භූමී භාග පර්චස් 120 ක මනරම් පරිසරයක් තුළ හම්බන්තොට මහජන පුස්තකාලය ස්ථාපනය කර ඇත.
2004 සුනාමී ව්‍යසනය හේතුවෙන් හම්බන්තොට ප්‍රථම මහජන පුස්තකාලය මුලුමනින්ම විනාශ වීමත් සමග 2007 වර්ෂයේ CCF ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආයතනයේ පුර්ණ අනුග්‍රහයෙන් ඉදිකිරීම් කරනු ලැබු වර්තමාන පුස්තකාලය එවකට ප්‍රාදේශීය කළමණාකාර තුමාගේ හා හම්බන්තොට මහා නගර සභාවේ එවකට නගරාධිපති වු කේ.ජී.ගාමිණි ශ්‍රී ආනන්ද මැතිතුමාගේ හා නාගරික මන්ත්‍රි වරුන්ගේ අනුග්‍රහයෙන් 2007.10.30 වන දින මෙම පුස්තකාලය විවෘත කරන ලදි.
මෙලෙස ආරම්භ වු හම්බන්තොට මහජන පුස්තකාලය 2007 වර්ෂයේ සිට නැවතත් පාඨක සුභ සිද්ධීය උදෙසා සේවාවන් ආරම්භ කරන ලදී.මෙසේ විවිධ වු කාල වකවානු තුල තේරීපත් වු නගරාධිපතිවරුන්, මන්ත්‍රිවරුන් හා උපදේශක වරුන්ගේ මඟපෙන්විම් යටතේ පුස්තකාල සේවාවන් පියවරෙන් පියවර වැඩිදියුණු කර ගනිමින් ඵලදායි සේවාවන් ලබා දෙමින් මෙවන විට නව සංවර්ධනයක් කරා පියවර තබා ඇත.
දැයේ දුවා දරුවන්ගේ නැණ පහන් දල්වමින්,කියවීමෙන් පිරිපුන් සමාජයක් බිහි කිරිම අරමුණු කර ගනිමින් නව දැක්මක් ඔස්සේ විකාශනය වන මෙම පුස්තකාලය නවීන තාක්ෂණික පහසුකම් සහිතව නව සංර්ධනයක් කරා ගමන් කරමින් සුවහසක් පාඨක ප්‍රජාව උදෙසා සුවිශේෂී සේවාවන් රුසක් සිදුකරනු ලබයි.
මේ වන විට සිංහල,දෙමළ, ඉංශ්‍රීසි හා වෙනත් භාෂා වලින් යුතු පොත් 20000 කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමානයක් සහා පුවත් පත් 38ක්ද, සඟරා 10 කින්ද , පාඨක ප්‍රජාව සිංහල,දෙමළ , මුස්ලිම්යන සියලුම ජන වර්ගයේ එකතුවක් ඇතිව 2000 කට ආසන්න සාමාජිකයින් සංඛ්‍යාවකින් සැදුම් ලත් පුස්තකාලයක් වනු ඇත.
පාඨක අවශ්‍යතා හොදින් අධ්‍යනය කරමින් හුදෙක් පාසැල් ළමයින් හා වැඩිහිටි ප්‍රජාව උදෙසා විවිධ වු වැඩසටහන් ,දේශණ ,විවිද වු තරඟ හා පාඨමාළාවන් වැනි විස්තාරණීය සේවාවන් රුසක් තුලින් පාඨක කුසලතා වර්ධනය කරමින් පුස්තකාල සේවාවට අමතර සේවාවන් රුසක් ද සිදුකරනු ලබයි.
දකුණු පළාත් මහ ඇමති තුමාගේ සංකල්පය මත දකුණු පලාත් පුස්තකාල සංවර්ධන මිලියන 2.5 වැඩසටහන සදහා තෝරාගනු ලැබු පුස්තකාල 03 සදහා හම්බන්තොට දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ යෝජිත පුස්තකාලය බවටද මෙම පුස්තකාලය සුදුසුකම් ලබාගන්නා ලදි.
2021 වර්ෂයේ, ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණ නියෝජිතායතනය (ICTA) හා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මණ්ඩලය හා එක්ව “ඩිජිටල් පුස්තකාල ව්‍යාපෘතිය” හරහා යාවත්කාලීන සංස්කරණ මුහුණුවරකින් යුත් පූර්ණ පුස්තකාල ස්වයංක්‍රීය පද්ධතියක් ද නවීන අංගෝපාංගයන් හා සේවාවන්ගෙන් ද සපිරි නව තාක්ෂණික අත්දැකිමක් සඳහා දොරටු විවර කර ඇත.
This library is located in the city of Hambantota in the Hambantota District, a unique district in the South, which has a rich cultural and historical value and a name that shines internationally. the Hambantota Public Library is located on a beautiful 120 perch land, close to the beautiful beach, adjacent to the Hambantota Port Oil Refinery and the Hambantota Old General Hospital.
Following the complete destruction of the first public library in Hambantota due to the 2004 tsunami disaster, the present library was constructed in 2007 with the full support of the CCF Sri Lanka. This library was opened on 30.10.2007.
The Hambantota Public Library, which was established in this manner, was re-launched in 2007 for the benefit of the readers. Steps have been taken.
Aiming to create a society full of literacy and enlightenment for the children of the nation, this library is moving towards a new development with the latest technological facilities and a unique vision for the Suwahasak readership.
At present, it has a library of nearly 20,000 books in Sinhala, Tamil, English and other languages, as well as 38 newspapers and 10 magazines, and a readership of nearly 2,000 members, comprising all communities, Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims.
Extensive services such as library services are also provided, with a wide range of extensive services such as various programs, lectures, various competitions and courses for school children and the adult community, carefully studying the needs of the readers.
This library also qualified as the proposed library in the Hambantota District for the 03 libraries selected for the Southern Province Library Development 2.5 million program based on the concept of the Chief Minister of the Southern Province.
In 2021, The Digital Libraries Project was implemented at this public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board by providing an advanced and updated library automation system and introduced modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country. Presently the library is fully equipped with modern electronic devices to provide digital library services to the public. Users can easily search, find, locate and hold required books through this Online Public Access Catalogue.
